What is Hacklab Kyiv?
Hacklab Kyiv is the pioneering Ukrainian community-supported hackerspace established in 2013. It is a non-profit organization that provides all the necessary tools for individuals to work on innovative projects. From CNC routers and 3D printers to soldering tools and electronic components, Hacklab Kyiv offers a conducive environment for creativity and collaboration.
A hackerspace, also known as a hacklab or makerspace, is a community-operated workspace where individuals with common interests in technology, science, art, and electronics can socialize and collaborate on projects worldwide.
The programmable syringe pump was developed to automate and streamline chemical experiments for scientists. In 2020, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the talented engineer Artem Synytsyn, the former Engineer at Samsung Ukraine R&D Center, who had created the prototype of the first Programmable Syringe Pump driver.
While syringe drivers typically have medical applications, they can also benefit scientific research, particularly in organic chemistry. This device allows for the precise and automated addition of small amounts of chemicals, making specific chemical synthesis processes more efficient.
Working alongside Pavlo Perevezentsev, we focused on enhancing the user experience and making the device more lightweight, user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing. One of our challenges was designing a suitable typeface for the small pixel screen, which led me to craft a custom typeface specifically for this purpose.
Testing the device was also rigorous, requiring us to spend countless hours addressing bugs and ensuring optimal functionality. Through our collaboration and dedication, we created an exceptional product that addresses the needs of scientists in the field.
